Save German Brewerys!

The Priapism team were shocked recently when they read a news story regarding the demise of many small German brewerys due to the 20% decrease in the per capita consumption of beer in Germany. When a brewery shuts down, even if it be on the other side of the world, it is a sad day for humanity. As a result, the Priapism team has decided to do something about this horrendous situation, and taken proactive steps to reduce the harm to the German beer producing community.

The first step in this battle was an email to the German Department of Foreign Affairs. The email is transcribed below. We are still waiting for a reply, but we have been reliably informed that German Chancellor (big dude in Germany) Helmut Kohl is personally taking responsibility for our travel plans. We'll let you know.

Dear Sir/Madam:

I work at the student radio station at my university and as part of my program I read news stories from around the world.

A particular news story that I read recently caused a large number of telephone calls to the station expressing sorrow. The story concerned the dramatic decrease in the amount of beer consumed by the German people and the resulting financial difficulty that many small brewery's are facing.

On behalf of my listners I would like to offer my services to help correct this problem. At university I have developed a strong taste for beer and love the opportunity to sample new varieties. I would like to tour Germany and sample the large number of fine beers that your many brewerys produce, and make a film about my travels. This film could be used to promote tourism in Germany, I am sure there would be many people in Australia who would love to travel through Germany sampling beer.

My plan is for my co-host and I to tour Germany with a hand-held camera, filming our trip and promoting the local brewerys that we visit. The costs to the German government would not be large; two air tickets, a video camera and some tapes, accommodation expenses for the two of us and a modest amount of spending money to sample the many varieties of fine German beer.

It is a very sad day when a brewery closes, and I hope that I can do a small bit to help Germany in this tough economic climate. If my idea appeals to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to you reply,

Yours sincerely,

Geoffrey Campey
